The First AI and Sport Hackathon

The Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones in partnership with the Center for Advanced Studies in Artificial Intelligence (AICAS) organized the “Intelligent League Hackathon Competition” at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 29/03/2019, in the premises of Digital City, Riyadh. The primary objective of the event was to contribute to the efforts of building local and professional capabilities encore with international standards, in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The Hackathon sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (CITC) along with the General Authority for Sports, is an unprecedented event for sports analytics using artificial intelligence.
The competition was specifically designed to identify and tap into the skills of aspirants and experts in the domain of artificial intelligence. The event witnessed humongous participation of 150 teams of programmers and data analysts competing against each other to develop the best prediction models through artificial intelligence, using the existing publicly available data of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Cup teams and players to predict the outcomes of the remaining Saudi league matches.

The event also aimed to raise the awareness of artificial intelligence in the youth to inspire them to take up careers in programming and analysis. Further, to brainstorm and develop more applicable applications of AI and enable the KSA to be recognized in the league of leading countries in artificial intelligence, a vital milestone ambition outlined in the vision 2030 of the Kingdom.
The Hackathon has awarded more than half a million Riyals in prizes for being distributed among the top three.
